Battle Royale and the Crazies Questions

     Battle Royale 

  

     1)     Battle Royale is a film about 40 school children who have to kill each other to survive because they didn’t respect their teacher who got stabbed by one of the students prior to taking up his new job as a sort of leader of the battle royale. They are given a map, various weapons including pot lids, binoculars and crossbows and some water. Every 12 hours Kitano announces the deaths of students and also danger zones are announced and if you are in them in the hour given, the neckless on you neck explodes and you die. If they break any rules their collar tag will explode, and they will die.  The objective is for all of the students to kill each other and if by 3 days since the events started and there is more than one survivor all of the students will die.

     3)      In my opinion Battle Royale is an adventure/drama movie. This is because most of the set is based in a jungle where they don’t know where they are and a few of the characters are trying to find a way off the island and a drama because off all the betrayal and death etc.

     4)      Act 1 - Everything seems fairly normal with some explanation about the governments actions to do with education and you can see the class all going on a school trip. I t then goes wrong when their all gassed out and all pass out to be awoken in a classroom where they find out their teacher is dead, and they all have to kill each other.

Act 2 - In the middle of the ‘battle royale’ everyone starts to go a bit crazy and turn on one another and betray each other. In my view the climax of the film is when the group of girls are in the lighthouse and they all eventually kill one another because someone puts poison in one of the dishes.

Act 3 -  At the end of the film when there are only 3 left, one of the characters goes to shoot the other two but it’s all a fake to hide the fact he actually shot the other two. Thay all go back to the centre of the game and eventually kill the teacher after a lot of gun shots to the chest.

     5)      Battle Royale does not follow the typical Hollywood narrative, this is because a number of different reasons. Firstly there are a number of unexplained flashbacks which don’t really fit with the films narrative direction and also the fact that there are not many different character types compared to other Hollywood films.

     The Crazies

d     Two examples of events that cause later events in the film which happened before was the plane crash because we see that when our characters are in the boat above the crashed plane in the swamp and also the first outbreaks of the infections.

   
     Two events that happened in a different time and space to the one we are shown include the outbreak of the virus and the fact that Judy gets pregnant with twins before the film had even started.

      Act 1 - Everyone's at the baseball game when a 'drunken' man named Rory walks onto the field with a gun and threatens to shoot the sheriff David which forces David to shoot first and alsoit shows another local farmer behave strange and lock his wife and child in a closet and burn them alive along with their house.

      Act 2 - The army seals off the town and puts the whole town into quarantine and the main characters, the sheriff, the deputy, the sheriff's wife and her assistant all escape and learn that the virus is airborne but if they're not already dead they are not infected.

      Act 3 - The deputy turns out to be infected and sacrifices himself so David and Judy his wife can escape and try to find a truck to escape in. After an intense fight with the walkers they escape only to find out the town is being nucked and they're truck topples over. They get out of the truck and escape to a larger city Cadar Rapids to only be infected which subsequently kills all off them too.
