Preparing Material for Editing

In this blog post I will be giving a how to guide on how to set up an editing production for beginners.

You always have to start by logging to your Mac or PC. It is always good to use local logins because the sizes of files are very often to big and not powerful enough.

Preparing your files is very important if you want to have a well structured project. It is important that you have a file for footage, audio and screenshots to store for any evaluations you may write.

When creating a new file for your project on premier pro it is important to use the right settings. Making sure your project in 1920x1080 25fps is arguably the most important so your project looks right and also naming your project uniquely so you are able to find your project in your files which you should save around the area your footage, audio and graphics are. This is very important as well.

When transferring footage to your mac it is very important that you give them different dates for different days you shoot. For example you will have files for 22nd February and 24th February.

When setting up files on Premiere Pro it is important that you do the same to what you done on the normal files, named with footage, audio and graphics (Title sequence etc.) It is important that you call these files the same as you have called them on the normal files.

When importing music it is important that you C+P where it says attribution or your video could  be taken down. Websites like BenSounds and Incompitech offer free music as long as you credit them at the end of your video.

Title creation can really help you video stand out if you use the right graphics. You can change a variety of things including font sizes, font size and what type of font you use.

  1. Simple clear instructions. Not quite as thorough as they could be - eg where on the HD do you save? What do you do about graphics? How should you ensure that the file structure on the HD mirrors the bins in the Project interface? Merit though at present.
