Complaint Letter.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you today to express my disbelief  at reading your job advert for the apprentice digital video production producer. Firstly I would like to start off with your contract. The contracted hours are way to vague. Normal jobs the contracted hours will be a lot more certificated, for example between 35-40 hours a week would be more suitable for full time work, if that's what your job is I can't tell? Confidentiality clauses are very important as you would agree but I majorly disagree with what I've seen in this advert. It doesn't mention anything about basic clauses you should see in an advert like this. There should be basic clauses such as my ideas should belong to you and anything I film you won as well, it doesn't mention any of this so you could be potentially worse off if you hire me to film for you.

The equality act (2010) is also something I would like to mention, in you advert you have stated that whoever you hire must be below 30 years of age. This goes directly against the equality act and is illegal. Also you have said that the person you hire must be Christian. This is illegal also! There is also the fact that you have not stated any health and safety laws I would have to amend to. You have not mentioned that during the filming for this video you want I would not be protected. For example if one of these 'male rapists' was to attack me you have not mentioned if I would be covered or not, which is appealing! Setups like trade unions are here to support people like me and they certainly won't appreciate this job advert.

Although I am aware that it is your job to come up with ethical practices for work, and this is not covered by the law, you have not mentioned in your advert to give me any sort of indication  that I would be protected in any way, and also my biggest complaint of all, you have made males to seem like the only people on the planet who are able to rape people, and also that females are the only people who can be raped. This is quiet frankly very messed up that you can think this and also stereotyping that only young people do this also, you're giving us a bad repetition. You know that young people are not portrayed in the best of light in the media and you are not helping that.

As you should be aware, Ofcom have 10 main broadcasting codes, if you don't know what they are, I'll let you look that up yourself. On the very first line of their code of conduct for under 18's it directly says, 'Material that might impair the physical, mental or moral development of under 18 must not be broadcast'. I know you don't have to strictly follow these rules but interviewing children about rape, as you've mentioned in your job advert will harm them at the bare minimum, mentally and their moral development of any child, especially a 'female victim'. Obviously you need to keep in mind about the Obscene Publications Act 1959 which makes it illegal to have pornography in productions unless it's rated 18+, I think. The BBFC will very likely also age restrict this video because of the content, I would imagine a 15 rated because their is no actual pornography but sensitive subjects are being touched upon.

Yours sincerely,

Louis Western.

  1. A well written letter although confidentiality clauses etc would not generally be found in an advert - but would certainly form part of a contract and since you are being asked to undertake this work in order to apply there is clearly a problem here. "Equality Act" should be capitalised. Solid merit work at present.
